Osteopathic Manual Treatment (OMT) is a collection of different hands-on modalities to help improve the structure of the body.  It was founded in the 1890's and has evolved through out the years.  Prior to utilizing OMT, different tests are used to help find problem areas.  Including:
  • Assessment of Gait and Postural Patterns and how they relate to any symptoms

  • Testing for muscle weakness, tightness and imbalances

  • Testing any Fascial related issues (Tenderpoints, Triggerbands, etc.)

  • Evaluation of the Mechanics of the Spine, Arms, Legs, Ribs and Head

The OMT that we utilize at Mobility Medicine is geared more towards muscles and fascia and include:

  • Muscle Energy Technique

  • Articulatory Technique

  • Myofascial Release Technique

  • Balanced Ligamentous Tension Technique

  • Fascial Distortion Model (FDM)

  • Osteopathy in the Cranial Field (Craniosacral)

We will rarely use High-Velocity Low-Amplitude (Cracking/Popping) techniques, but this will always be discussed with the patient before being used.  Generally we find the muscle attachment to the joint is more of the problem and when these are resolved there is no need for more aggressive procedures.
